Drains & clogs
Slow drains, standing water and recurring blockages.
Read the drain & clog help guide →Slow drains, standing water and recurring blockages. Start with what you can observe, then ask an independent plumbing business to confirm the assessment, scope and price.
You do not need a technical diagnosis to start the conversation. If you share photos, take them only from a safe position and avoid including unnecessary personal information.
Name the affected fixture, when the problem began, whether water drains slowly or not at all, and whether other fixtures are affected. Describe observations rather than assuming the blockage is in a particular pipe.
Not necessarily. A recurring problem is useful information, but symptoms alone do not identify the cause or location. Ask the plumbing business how it will assess the problem and whether further investigation is included in its quote.
Access, the affected fixture or line, the investigation needed and the work proposed can affect the quote. Ask whether the quoted scope includes assessment, clearing, any camera inspection and follow-up. Flowline does not publish a fixed drain-clearing price.
Mention every affected fixture when arranging an assessment. Multiple affected fixtures are relevant to the plumber’s investigation; they are not a diagnosis. Describe any overflow or sewage exposure and ask the provider whether it can handle the situation.
Ask who will attend, what the assessment costs, what work is included, how additional work is approved, and what happens if the blockage returns. Do not assume a return visit or warranty is included unless it is stated in writing.
Confirm the business’s legal or trading name, relevant license and any assessment or travel fee. State access restrictions, parking or building-management requirements. Agree on the appointment date and arrival window directly with the provider.
Ask for the scope, price, inclusions and exclusions. Confirm how additional work would be authorized, who handles follow-up, and any written warranty terms. A preferred appointment time, inquiry checklist or initial estimate is not approval to begin work.
